20 Feb Stop Making Time Your Enemy
We know what you’re doing. You’ve decided you’re fed up with the way your fitness routine has been going. You’re sick of being “stuck.” You’re ready to change. You’re ready to buckle down and get in the best shape you’ve ever been in.
So here you are, searching online for an easy program where you’ll see immediate physical results. You’re tired of putting in effort, only to step on the scale the next day and feel deflated. Like giving up and trying something else. You’d be more likely to stick to a program if you saw big changes quickly.
Fitness Takes Time
Too many times people jump into their fitness programs with a full head of steam ready to commit and succeed. They’re in it to win it for the first few days, and then disappear and fall off the radar by the end of the first week. It’s sad and frustrating because they were THIS close.
THIS close to seeing a change that could have propelled them to new heights.
THIS close to gaining traction with consistency.
THIS close to seeing visible change.
THIS close to the goals they set out to accomplish in the first place.
THIS close to perfecting a new habit that pays off big in both long term health, and poolside photoshoots.
You Can’t Shortcut Your Fitness.
There’s no magic drink that’ll change your physique by next week. There’s no 10 minute workout that will make you drop 20 lbs by next month. There’s no pill that will transform your body and your life.
Ever heard the expression, “Slow and steady wins the race”? The tortoise stayed the course. He was consistent. He was patient. He wasn’t worried about his timing. He knew his ultimate goal, and he was determined to get there.
When Working Out, Time Is Your Friend
Too often we think of time as our enemy. “Oh, I don’t have enough time.” Or “This program will take too long.”
We want results NOW.
And believe me, I get it. I’m fluffier than I want to be. I want the fluff gone yesterday. But when I feel this way, I look forward because fitness programs are designed to take time.
We live in a world where we are accustomed to instant gratification. And if we don’t get it, we get frustrated. Think about it–how many times have you sat down on your computer, and when the webpage didn’t load fast enough, you got upset?
The only way to Achieve Your Fitness Goals is Through Consistency.
Consistency takes time. We love this quote, and it couldn’t ring truer for for consistency in fitness: “We become what we want to be by consistently being what we want to become each day.”
You will get there. Here’s a great example of someone who was consistent through her workout program:
“After two weeks of strictly following my fitness diet, I can honestly say I’m starting to finally ‘see’ differences. I wish it was in my arms and waist (that’ll be the last place)….it’s starting in my legs. Calves and quads are starting to stand out. The ‘pinch’ is getting smaller. I’ve followed this plan before consciously, but not strictly. The first few days of cravings were hard, but it’s over now. My body’s figured it out, it knows what I’m set out to do! Let’s go!!!)”
Notice it took her WEEKS before she noticed any changes… and they weren’t even the specific changes she was after. But ultimately, she was consistent and eventually saw some visual differences. THAT’S the key! The rest is coming, and she knows it is because things are changing. When that kicks in, the rest is like dominoes to your goal.
Will it be tough?
Will it be frustrating?
Will it be worth it?
Make Time Your Friend
The ultimate goals you hope to see will come. But it’s not about sticking to a program for a few weeks where you’ll see lifelong results. It’s about changing your lifestyle. The sooner you accept time as your friend, the sooner you’ll enjoy a lifetime of satisfaction.
Trust your program and stay the course. When you learn to be patient with yourself and with your body, is when you’ll see results that work in your favor.
